Edward William Godwin
Mahogany cabinet probably designed for himself and manufactured by William Watt in 1876.
The cabinet, which has an oriental inspiration, is composed of a central part with linear structural elements around, four slim legs inter-connected by a horizontal level. The function of the piece is apparent in its shape, which is extended through the movement of protruding levels and revolving supports. The four richly decorated panels inside the front panels help to give the cabinet a decorative richness. In the reconstruction it was thought appropriate to use embossed, patinated metal instead of the wood inlay.
