Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann
The shape of this item has a strongly centralised formal design, composed of a base with a tapering step and a central, vertical solid wood support, which bears the single cabinet in a parallelepipid shape with a square section on the front. It confirms Ruhlman’s preference for the geometric simplification of volumes.
Produced in briarwood, its outstanding feature is its brilliance stemming from the large medallion with bas relief in silvered metal.
The inner wall at the back of the cabinet is partially lined by mirror pieces which, together with the glass shelves, give the inside area lightness and luminosity.
The medallion, fitted with a bolt lock and decorated with bevelling and silvering, accentuates the central importance of the reflections of light which detract attention from the pedestal and the base. Further lightness is provided by the four silvered sheets placed under the corners of the base.
